STATE COAL DELIVERIES
Sir, —Purchasers of State coal will be indebted to you for information you have published from time to time, but when I made inquiries at the head office two rather unsatisfactory features were disclosed, which do not appear to have been mentioned previously. I was advised that if I had my own conveyance or could arrange transport it would be possible to obtain immediate delivery. It also transpired that anyone could pay cash and take immediate delivery under these circumstances, thereby obtaining preference over, customers who had been waiting for many weeks, but who could not arrange transport. In an. endeavour to help myself on the basis recommended by the office, I rang a carrier, but he informed me that if he put a bag of coal or even coke on his lorry he would be liable to a ;fine! This man has been carrying for me for over 15 years. An explanation of this apparently harsh decision seems to be warranted. —I am, etc.,
