A further statement relating to the production;of ci^ian^clothinir was tnade today by the Minister of Sup•plyr:(Mr.Sullivaiiyu, : ; :/.':.■ ::: ■ / ' "I made 'reference 'recently to the arrangements being-made by the Government for the manufacture in New Zealand: of essential civilian requirements of garments, as far as these can be met' under war conditions,' : said 4he;-Minister.- ' "These .arrangements involve the 'conducting>of a comprehensive survey of ;the present and potential .productive-;; capacity, for civilian garments, of each section of the' garment manufacturing industry, ■•'this industry is. organised on a national basis under the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, and because of the national scope of this organisation I have : authorised the federation to obtain full data from each individual firm in the industry in furtherance, of. the planning of civilian garment.production. "The action' taken by; the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation will be directed through the following national "trade group .organisations, representing' each section of the garment, manufacturing 'industry: New Zealand Men'% and Boys' Outer clothing Manufacturers' Federation, New Zealand Women's arid Girls" Outerwear • Manufacturers' Federation, New. Zealand Shirt and 4 Pyjama Manufacturers' Federation,. New. Zealand Knitwear Industry Group. • "I hope all firms within the industry will make available the information required to these national federations," said the Minister. "The information is required promptly, and 1 would make this personal' request to v,all manufacturers concerned to co--operate and supply the figures required as quickly as possible so that ' these mayvbe available to the Government in a summarised form at an early date, giving a comprehensive and ac- ' curate picture \of "the present and 'potential position." ; ■ : ' ,
