CLAIMED IN SHANSI

It is announced that the Eighteenth Chinese Red Army is participating in a battle against the Japanese in Southern Shansi.
A Shanghai message quotes the Japanese army spokesman, MajorGeneral Akiyama, as claiming a decisive victory, gaining control of the whole of Southern Shansi north of the Yellow River. Major-General Akiyama admitted that the Chinese recaptured Chuki, in the Chekiang Province, after a voluntary Japanese withdrawal.—U.P.A.
