SUCCESSES IN IRAK

PATROLLING IN LIBYA l

LONDON, May 23,

A Cairo communique states that in Libya, in both the Tobruk and Sollum areas, our patrols have again been active. In Abyssinia, operations continue to develop satisfactorily. In Irak, our troops have successfully dispersed an enemy counter-attack which gained a temporary footing on the outskirts of the town of Falluja. Twenty Irak rebel officers and 90 other ranks were taken prisoner.

Earlier today news reached London that the unsuccessful rebel attack on Falluja, the dispersal of which is now reported, took place on Wednesday night. The Irakis used infantry and light tanks.

lAt first they drove back . our outposts and penetrated the town, but after bombing by our aircraft and a counter-attack by our troops our positions were reoccupied. Some tanks fell into our hands. German aircraft attacked Habbania aerodrome, causing slight damage. The situation in Basra is quiet.

In the Battle of the Lakes in Abyssinia another 800 prisoners were taken.
