Measures providing for compulsory military service of the native population have been introduced in Ihe Netherlands East Indies Parliament, following patriotic requests by many thousands of islanders who desire to participate in the defence system. The new units will result in much stronger coastal protection, and there will also be extensive garrisoning inland.— U.P.A.
