PATRIOTIC FUNDS
WHAT CJ.C. HAS DONATED
A very brief report on the operations of the present season has been issued by Ihe chairman of the Canterbury Jockey Club. Mr. A. S. Elworthy. The annual meeting of members will be held on May 28, when no election of stewards or committee will be necessary, as only the requisite number in each case has been nominated.
The report comprises only the one paragraph referring to the season's activities. It reads: "In view of the fact that it was necessary to set aside a sum of £3500 for income tax and social and national security charges, the result of the year's operations must be considered satisfactory. A sum of £1510 was donated to various patriotic organisations during the year, and to this will lie added the profit of £49 19s 7d. But for ad verse weather conditions seriously affecting the financial result of the autumn fixture at Easter, Ihe patriotic funds would have benefited to a much greater extent."
