MOTORIST FINED £15

A verdict of guilty was found' by a jury in the Supreme Court on. Thursday after hearing the evidence, in. the trial of Edwin Elias Barrows, aged 46 secretary in Wellington of the British Israel World Federation. The charge against him was that on the night of December 23, in Kent Terrace, he negligently drove a car. causing bodily injury to William McPhee Murdbck. The Chief Justice imposed a fine of £15. ordered Barrows to pay the costs, £13 Is Bd, and cancelled his driving licence for two years. His Honour commented that Barrows had departed from the high' standard of care that motorists should maintain. Mr. C. H. Weston. K.C., and Mr. W. VR Birku appeared for the Crown, and Mr. H. F. O'Leary, K.C., and Mr. S. G Stephenson for the accused. The victim of the accident was the conductor of a tram which had stopped because the trolley-pole came off the wire. While he was adjusting the pole (he defendant's car ran into him and crushed him against the tram, so severely injuring his legs that one had to be amputated and he was still in hospital. ,
