LONG SERVICE
BELLAMY'S CHEF
RETIRING SOON
After an association with Bellamy's, Parliament House, which began 30 years ago when his father, Mr. Ben Starr, held the position, Mr. Harry Starr is retiring at the end of next month as the head chef, owing to indifferent health. He has been on the permanent staff for 25 years; for about 22 years he has been the chief chef.
Mr. Starr has seen many changes since he first went to Bellamy's—in buildings, cooking, and in Governments. He has cooked for many distinguished personages who have been entertained at State luncheons on their visits to this country. Among them are the present King, the Duke of Windsor, and the Duke of Gloucester.
Those who have attended these luncheons speak highly of Mr. Starr's ability as a cook. He also enjoys a wide reputation as an expert decorator. At State luncheons in years gone by he produced some most artistic table pieces in icing. Some of his Maori houses are still well remembered by those who had the privilege of attending the luncheons in those days.
Mr. Starr served his time in London, and was in business in Wellington on his own account for several years. He sold out and went to Sydney. On his return to Wellington he joined Bellamy's, and has been there ever since.
