MISSION TO UNITED STATES
The choice of the New Zealand delegation to the United States of America was criticised by Mr. W. E. Barnard, M.P., during an address at Hswera.

The appointment of the two representatives after much delay came as a surprise, he stated, and, criticising the appointment of Mr. Langstone. he suggested that Mr. Coates "would have made a better fist of it" as Leader of the mission. It has been purely a political appointment.
"We should have got the best man in New Zealand irrespective of his political colour. Politics do not come into this matter, and I think it will require a man of greater and wider experience to bring about the desired results. I regard our relations with the United States as most important,'* ]
