ATTACK NEAR BETHUNE

INTERFERENCE BY ENEMY

FAILS TO STOP RAID

LONDON, May 22,

A force of R.A.F. bombers with a large escort of fighters attacked the power station and oil refineries near Bethune in the Department of Pas de Calais, encmycccupied France, yesterday. Enemy fighters intercepted the force shortly after it had crossed the coast and a number of combats occurred, but the enemy were unable to prevent the success of the attack. Direct hits were observed on both objectives.

Our fighters shot down four enemy fighters and our bombers one, and six of our fighters and one bomber are missing.

There was no enemy activity over Britain last night.—U.P.A.
