FOUND ON ROCKS
LARGE STOLEN YACHT
ATTEMPT TO GET TO SEA
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 22. The A class cutter-rigged racing yacht Marangi disappeared from her moorings inside the breakwater of the protected anchorage at Orakei on Wednesday night and was found on the rocks at Rangitoto this morning. A large knife and a pair of rubber gloves were found on board.
It was discovered that the yacht's moorings 'had been cut, apparently by the knife found aboard. The cabin door had been forced and the side lights taken out, lit, and hung. An attempt had been made to hoist the mainsail, but it seemed that whoever tried to do this had been unable to cbmplete the task, and had then tried td put two reefs in, the yacht when found being half reefed down.
Obviously someone had tried to take the Marangi .to sea. She was amply stocked with food and water, for a long voyage.
