A POPULAR FIXTURE

RACING AT LEVIN

EXCELLENT FIELDS LISTED

Following upon the destruction ■of its grandstand by fire, the Foxton Racing Club temporarily had the use of Awapuni for its race gatherings, but by the time its 1940 Winter Meeting came round the club was able to reoccupy its own property. However, the military authorities are now in occupation and their presence necessitated the club again going afield. Tomorrow will find the club racing at Levin, and this excellent course, which is almost invariably fast and firm, will offer the best of racing conditions. The main attraction is the Foxton Cup, with such recent winners as Amigo, Aurora's Star, and The Monarch in the top division of the handicap, and in addition there are such improvers as Gladynev, Lady Montana, Gay Fox, Last Acre, and Trench Law. The course may best suit Gay Fox (if started), Aurora's Star, Last Acre, and Trench Law. There is also an open issue in the Kebbell Memorial Handicap, the open sprint, for there are such smart sorts as Autolite, Majority, Mittie, Night Eruption, and Black Robe engaged. It is not improbable that Grandora might appreciate the turning track and firm surface, although in his racing at this end of the island to date he has been weakening before the' close.
