ART EXHIBITION
GIFTS FROM N.Z. ARTISTS
An exhibition of a gift collection of pictures, organised by the New Zealand Society of Artists in aid of the patriotic funds, was opened in the lounge of Kirkcaldie and Stains Ltd. this afternoon by the Hon. W. Perry. M.L.C., deputy chairman of the National Patriotic Fund Board.
A short time ago the idea was conceived of inviting artists throughout the Dominion to make a personal gift to the patriotic fund, and the art collection now on view, valued at £1200, has been handed over to the National Patriotic Fund Board. This collection of contemporary New Zealand art is to be shown at Nelson. Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Wanganui, Hamilton, Auckland, Napier, and Wellington. The exhibition is. the property of the Patriotic Fund Board, whose object is to see that every work is sold before the close of the exhibition itinerary. There are 137 pictures in the exhibition, and eight of them have been set aside as art union prizes.
