Changes In the return of the Reserve Bank for the week ended May 19 show an increase in sterling exchange by £233,952. and at £21,267.307 this item compares with £11,885,008 at January 6, 1941, and £13,230.088 at May 20, 1940. Advances by the Bank to the State for purposes other than marketing are unchanged this week at £13,500,000. At May 20, 1940, such advances amounted t,o £19,560,000. The Bank note issue is increased this week by £122,959 to £21,809,612, and compares with £17,570,G03 at May 20, 1940.
