SHIPS PURCHASED
NEW ZEALAND COMPANY
OIL-BURNING VESSELS
The acquisition by the New Zealand Shipping Company of three laid-up steamers belonging to the United States Maritime Commission is reported in an overseas shipping journal. These ships were part of a batch of twelve, sold by the Maritime Commission for a total of £2,779,000 to a group of British companies, of which the New Zealand Shipping Company is one.
The ships are the Coralia (5963 tons), the Guimba (6100 tons), and the Monasses (5983 tons), all built in 1919. The Coralia is not listed in Lloyd's Register, but the Guimba and Monasses are oil-burning vessels. They .were built on the Pacific Coast of America and are equipped with refrigerating machinery. Presumably the Coralia is much the same, and she is probably a sister-ship to the Monasses.
