Petone Towiiswomcn,

The Petone branch of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds (Inc.), owing to its large and increasing membership, now holds its meetings in the-Labour Hall, Petone, writes "The Post's" Hutt Valley representative. Mrs. C. G. Noble presided over the recent meeting and Mrs. W. J. Mountjoy (jun.) gave a graphic account of her wartime experiences in England. In paying tribute to the wonderful spirit shown on all sides, Mrs. Mountjoy drew the conclusion that "Londoners know how to make the best of the worst." Good business was done at a "bring-and-buy" stall, the proceeds going to the overseas soldiers' parcels fund. The choir (under Mrs. N. E. Gould), individual members of the guild, and the drama circle contributed to the programme. V.M.C.A. Auxiliaries' Activities. Mrs. H. W. Kersley presided at the recent meeting of the V.M.C.A. ladies' auxiliary. Reports on the Sunday nights' soldiers' teas were presented, mention being made of various gifts received from interested people, and appreciation expressed of the work of the V.M.C.A. girls' auxiliary, which provides teas for. men of the forces each Saturday afternoon. Mr. R. H. Nimmo, president of the V.M.C.A., also thanked the ]adies for their work in connection with the soldiers' teas. On another recent occasion members of the ladies' auxiliary entertained the girls' auxiliary at a social evening held in the gymnasium. Mrs. R. H. Nimmo, president, welcomed the girls. Items were given by Misses Myra Sawyer, June Blake, and Messrs. Gardiner and Boardman, the accompanist being Miss Finlay. The hostesses were thanked by Miss Burnley, president of the girls' auxiliary.
