WARSHIPS GIVE HELP
i (Rec. 11 a.m.) RUGBY, May 21. German planes attacked the hospital ship Aba (7937 tons), formerly an Elder Dempster steamer, which wire- '; lessed:—"Am being attacked by enemy ■planes." Steaming to the scene, British warships met the hospital ship after three and a half hours and found that she had escaped despite eight "near misses." Forty minutes afterwards eight Junkers 87's returned to the attack, dive-bomb--ing both the'hospital ship and one warship. Dazzling light made it-hard to fix "the target for anti-aircraft gunfire, but no direct hits were scored on either ship, although there were several "near misses." A riddled enemy plane was ; later seen plunging into the sea.— -8.0. W.
