The Acting Prime Minister, (Mr. Nash) will leave for Auckland tonight.

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night extended its congratulations to ths following members on their success in the civic elections: —Messrs. R. H. Nimmo ahd Martin Luckie (City Council), W. I. J. Blyth (Harbour Board), W. S. Cederholm (Hospital Board), F. Campbell (Lower Hutt Council), and R. Bothamley (Hutt County).

. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce, at. its meeting last night, expressed its regret at the loss to the business community through the death of the late Mr. J. B. MacEwan, and sympathy with his relatives. Mr. H. McGregor Post, formerly chief officer of the Port Gisborne, has been awarded the M.B.E. for his conduct after the sinking of his ship in the Atlantic. Captain T. Kippins, of the same ship, was awarded the 0.b8.E. some time ago. Both men were adrift in a lifeboat with members of the crew for 14 days before they were rescued and suffered considerably from exposure. Mr. Post is a son of Captain C. Post, for many years master of the Government steamer Matai.

Lieut-Commander Charles W. Hope, R.N., killed in action in H.M.S. Bonaventure, served in H.M.S. Veronica in New Zealand. He was .39 years Of age and had been in the Navy since 1915. Mr. J. E. Thomas, Food Controller, left Wellington yesterday on a visit to Auckland.

Mr. H. Kitson has been re-elected chairman of the Christchurch Domains Board, and Mr. F. George deputychairman.

Mr. Stuart Thomson, who has been a member of the accounts braiich of the Wellington Education Board for •the past two and a half years and who is joining the Air Force as a pilot, ■was met by fellow-members of the board's- staff today and presented with a leather hold-all and a bound volume of Shakespeare's works. Mr. Thomson, who leaves shortly for Weraroa to undergo training, is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Thomson, Karori.
