CLARION CALL TESTED

(0.C.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. The feature item of yesterday morning's operations at Awapuni was a grand exhibition of jumping over the new steeplechase country by the champion,, Clarion Call, with A. Jenkins in the saddle. Beginning down the back stretch, his first two obstacles were brush fences; next was a 3ft board fence; then a brush at the bottom of the straight; the solid log wall; and finally the sod wall. He then repeated the performance with a bit more pace on, winding up at the foot of the straight. He pulled up sound and was still all right after exercising on the oval. Another to take on the "country" was Tigreterre (P. Rae), who completed a round over six fences. A number of horses were schooled over the hurdles and all of them went well. They were Manteau (A, Jenkins), Cuisinier (Miss White), High Peer (Miss White), Foxiana (Jenkins), Quadroon (M. Bowden), and Henry of Huntingdon (F. Buchanan). Foxiana gave a particularly fine display, as did Manteau and Henry of Huntingdon.

Amigo was galloped on at Waverley, which was the reason why lie was unable to fulfil his Egmont engagements. He was not seriously hurt and he figures among the entrants for Foxton next Saturday, though somewhat strangely he has not been nominated for the Wanganui Meeting, at which his stable has Globe Trotter, Algerian, and The Wanton engaged.
