STEEL INDUSTRY

USE OF IRONSAND

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

NEW PLYMOUTH, March 26.

Taranaki ironsand will have to contribute at least 25 per cent, of the raw material, even if works are established at Onekaka for the production of iron and steel goods. This information was revealed when a deputation from New Plymouth waited on the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr. Sullivan) and the Minister of Public Works (Mr. Armstrong) in Wellington to urge the establishment of a plant at New Plymouth for the conversion of steel scrap. The deputation was informed that when conditions made possible the erection of major works the proportion of Taranaki ironsand mentioned would be used.
