BISHOP OF NELSON
CONSECRATION CEREMONY

The consecration and enthronement of the Rev. P. W. Stephenson as sixth Bishop of Nelson took place in the cathedral today. The ceremonial was conducted by the Archbishop, assisted by the Bishops of Waikato, Dunedin, Auckland, and Aotearoa.
Preaching the consecration sermon, Bishop Bennett extended a welcome to Bishop Stephenson on behalf of the diocese and the Church throughout New Zealand. He congratulated, the diocese on the appointment of the new bishop, whose wide experience in parochial work, . the missionary field, and education, would prove useful in further development of the Church's influence. He paid tribute to Bishops Hobhouse, Suter, Mules, Sadlier, and Hilliard, whose work resulted in the closest co-operation between all churches in Nelson.
St. John's College, in Manitoba, has conferred the degree of doctor of divinity on Bishop Stephenson.
