"PICKABACK" PILOT

RECOMMENDED FOR AWARD

BUT GUILTY OF OFFENCE

SYDNEY, October 24.

"Pickaback" Pilot Len Fuller, whose landing of two. planes locked together after a midair collision recently earned him world fame, is, at the same time, being punished by the Air Force and recommended for a decoration. This was "revealed by the Minister for Air (Mr. Fadden), who said that he had called for the papers on the case into which an air inquiry is also being made.

It is understood that the decoration for which Fuller was recommended was the Air Force Cross, and that his punishment is confinement to barracks.

"Fuller is not being punished only for talking to the Press," said Mr. Fadden. "Other factors enter into it.

"Fuller has been recommended for a decoration," he added. "The recommendation is not yet before me, so I don't know what particular decoration it is, but I have been advised that the recommendation has been made."

It is known that the authorities view seriously the singling out of a particular man from any squadro.i for publicity, as detrimental to discipline, and that, this, together with other facts, caused them to take action against Fuller. His case, however, will probably be treated sympathetically by the Minister,
