MOUNTING HORROR
In "Who's Afraid?" by Elizabeth Sanxay, a young woman named Susie Aiban takes a job as travelling representative for a cultural course called Gateways and by so doing runs headlong into a series of adventures mvoiv mg a murder. Susie, who is utterly inexperienced in the ways of the world, has no idea why the people with whom she comes in contact act so strangely or why so many of them are interested in her movements. Gradually she becomes aware that she herself is In danger, but -she does not know why or from what quarter ■ the danger threatens. She is a. brave young woman and a resourceful one—much more so than one might expect con sidering the sheltered life she has led The author has succeeded admirably in depicting the mounting horror and sus pense of the situation in \vhich Susie. through no fault of her own,, has be come almost inextricably entangled "Who's Afraid?" does not follow the usual pattern of the detective story but it holds the reader's attention in a way that few books in that category are able to equal.
