FIERCER NOW

ABYSSINIAN HOSTILITY

FIGHT AGAINST OPPRESSORS

EMPEROR'S LEAD

LONDON, October 31

In an interview with a London correspondent, the Emperor Haile Selassie of Abyssinia, who is now in the Sudan, said that the fight against the Italian oppressors had never ceased since 1936. It was now blazing up more fiercely, since Italy had entered the war, and he expected it would reach greater intensity when he got back among his people.

He said that he was in the Sudan to lead the fight for Abyssinia and to help Britain in the larger fight to free the enslaved nations from Fascist tyranny. He knew well the treacherous methods of warfare employed by the Italians. His place was with his people, sharing their hardships.

The Emperor has been in the Middle East for some time, and today received chieftains who had crossed into the Sudan to swear allegiance to him.
