ALIEN FINED

Walter Schmenz, a mas-tc-r painter, and an enemy alien, was charged in the Magistrate's Court today, before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., with being in possession of a car without a permit. The police said that the defendant was a native of Germany, but had been in the country for about ten or eleven years. It was only a matter of applying for a permit, and he would have got it. He was of quite good character. Schmeltz said that he considered himself a New Zealander, The failure to obtain a permit was just an oversight. A fine of 40s and costs was imposed.
