ST. JAMES THEATRE.
"The GHost Breakers."
Blending rhystery, murder, chicanery, and comedy intp":one and the same picture, is: ah art in itself, and calls for expert judgment as well as inspired spacing and timing. Paramount proved that it could be done in "The Cat and the Canary," and now comes a repeat verification—again co-starring the inimitable Bob Hope and the -beautiful Paulette Goddard—in "The Ghost Breakers," which, opens tomorrow at the St. James Theatre: A solid column lof type could never adequately" outline 'the story, which is based on a play by Paul Dickey and Charles W Goddard,.and done into a screen play by Walter De Leon. . There is a thrill, a laugh, and a new mystery in practically every sequence. Briefly, the picture has to do with Paulette's inheritance of a haunted castle on an island oft" Cuba. Sinister forces are at work to scare her into selling her estate without even investigating the stories of horror and sudden death that are associated with the castle. Bob Hope, in the character of a radio commentator, appoints himself her ally, and the two —during a night in the mystery, house —experience all sorts of frights . and thrills, before the secret of the castle and its arch-murderer is revealed, ; a denouement that will not be anticipated by even the most experienced mystery solvers.
