CONCERT LAST NIGHT

IN AID OF HARD OF HEARING

Miss Andri Bevin, contralto, and Mrs. Ina Stephens, pianist, gave a concert at Nimmo's Hall last night in aid of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing. The concert was arranged by Miss Bevin, and the programme was a delightful one. There was a large attendance. The league's, portable group hearing aid, which has 24 headphones, was used. During ar.- interval, teacher of lipreading, Miss Eggleton, explained that the league had two group hearing aids, the one being used on this occasion and the other a fixture at the league rooms, with 50 earphones attached. EDGE OF A NEW WORLD. ''We are able to take this portable set out to plays, concerts, and church meetings," said Miss Eggleton, "and find that with its help we are on the edge of a new world of possibilities." She explained that the members, apart from honorary ones, are all people who for [some reason or other had lost part of i their hearing, and a few all of it at various stages of life. The league aimed at encouraging them to live happy, normal lives, and strived to offer them good fellowship, sympathy i when needed, lip-reading tuition, and 'advice about the latest hearing aids. It was also announced that a bridge party in aid of funds for the league would take place at the English-speak-ing Union rooms on October 30, and those wishing to make up tables were asked to get in touch with Mrs. Nicholson, the honorary secretary, or Miss Eggleton.

R. Olausen, H. I. Henderson, Black, E. Clements, Farcy, Auld, Harding, McKenzie, Leatham, Plackett, V. Domb, Crowther, and Husband, and Miss Clements. Mrs. Bentley was responsible for the lovely floral decorations.
