JEWS IN POLAND
The Germans have revealed a few details about the treatment of Jews in former Poland, which is now under German supervision, says the "Chicago Tribune." To date no foreign correspondents have been allowed to travel freely in this area. The Germans assert they chose the "ghetto system for the Jews in Poland because it is more practical and could ta enforced quicker." All Jews and Jewesses above the age of ten must wear a wide white armband marked with the Star of David. Compulsory labour has been introduced for the Jewish population. "For this purpose," the Germans explained, "the Jews were divided into working groups headed by a Jew who is responsible to the: German authorities. As a rule, the compulsory labour service is for two years. In this time the Jews are to do physical work with spades and shovels." Jewish working centres have also been created in which artisans are to work together. A Jewish council takes care of the administrative work. It is compelled to take the : orders of the German authorities and is responsible for their enforcement. Governor-General Hans Frank, whom Adolf Hitler placed in charge of former Poland, is the absolute ruler of this region.
