ART SOCIETIES

ASSOCIATION'S MEETING

In presenting his report to the annual meeting of the Association of New Zealand Art Societies, Dr. A. IX Carberry, .the retiring president, remarked that one of the executive's objectives had been a painstaking revision of the rota scheme and the exhibition regulations. For this exacting work the executive had to thank the energy and diligence of the sub-com-mittee set up for the purpose, which consisted of Messrs. R. Hipkins, Basil Honour, and R. J. Waghorn. The rota system of exhibitions of current art in New Zealand had several functions. The first was the opportunity afforded to artists of showing their works, at no cost to themselves, in the many centres throughout the Dominion, and in this way finding a wider market. The second function, no less important, was that it enabled each of the smaller societies to hang an exhibition of approved works representing current art from all centres of the Dominion. Much care had been taken ia the revision of the rota.scheme and ia the preparation of amended exhibition regulations, which were now submitted to the delegates for approval.

The proposed new regulations governing the exhibition rota were discussed clause by clause. Some amendments were made to- the proposals of the standing, committee and, as passed, t-

the regulations will be distributed to all member societies at an early date.

The levy to meet working expenses was fixed at 3d a head of the total membership of each member society.

It was decided, after discussion, on the motion of Mr. W. M. Page, "That this meeting authorises the standing committee to negotiate with the Auckland Society of Arts with a view .to making use of our national scholarship moneys in conjunction with the Auckland Carnegie Scholarship Fund."

The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. Basil Honour; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. C Schneider; honorary . auditor, M*. Ernest W. Hunt.
