MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. October 14. A suggestion that the municipal conference had, from the point of view of the cities, outlived its usefulness, was made at a meeting of the Christchurch City Council by Councillor M. E. Lyons when supporting a recommendation of the bylaws committee that the council should suggest the postponement of the next municipal conference, due to be held in Auckland in March. Councillor Lyons said he thought it would be of much greater benefit to the six cities to form their own organisation. They were outvoted on the Municipal Association and many reasonable and practical suggestions which had been put forward had had no chance of getting through. Councillor J. S. Barnett opposed postponement on the ground that the local body elections were to be proceeded with. The committee's recommendation was adopted. .
