PATRIOTIC DANCE

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE TO

MEN OVERSEAS

A very successful patriotic dance in aid of the Petone Women's Patriotic Committee's soldiers' parcel fund was held by Reg. Stillwell's Dance Assembly at the Oddfellows' Hall. The ballroom was beautifully decorated with festoons, flags, and shields. Above the stage an arch bore the following inscription: "Petone Greets Our Gallant Boys." Where the word "our" appeared a cut-out map of New Zealand was displayed and streamers attached tc Petone stretched across the hall and connected with a map of England and Egypt.

A grand march was led by Mrs. Burns, wife of the Deputy Mayor, and members of the Petone Women's Patriotic Committee. After Norm Croft's band had played the National Anthem Mr. Stillwell read the Christmas greeting to be sent to the New Zealand troops overseas. The message was addressed to the officers commanding the N.Z.E.F. and R.N.Z.A.F., and was signed by everyone present.

Mr. W. H. Edwards, secretary of the Petone Patriotic Committee, thanked Mr Stillwell for giving the dance, the Oddfellows' Lodge for the use of the hall, the Magnet Bakery for donating the supper provisions, and the Star Aerated Water Co. for a supply of cordials. A vote of appreciation was also given Mr. J. Kyle for providing prizes and Mr. J. Penman for painting the Christmas greeting scroll.
