KING'S THEATRE.
Musical Comedy.
A comedy of errors contrived by Dan Cupid by slyly juggling fotte hearts, is the romantic basis of RKORadio's gay and tuneful offering, "Irene," co-starirng Anna Neagle and Ray Milland, which opens on Friday at the King's Theatre. The lovely British star is cast as a little Irish shop girl who becomes a dress model, and then almost overnight emerges as the toast of New York society because of the gorgeous gowns she wears in public as a publicity stunt for hec firm. Her wealthy employer, Ray Mil* land, falls in love with her while guiding her sensational career, but doesn't reveal his feelings. But his best friend, Alan Marshal, becomes engaged to the beautiful model out of sympathy when she is exposed as a fraud. Then there is Marsha Hunt, who plays a society, girl very much in love with Marshal, but who silently accepts his plans to marry the sympathetic glamour girl. From this novel maze of romantic complications emerges a carload of hilarious situations and exciting incidents, which reach a climax in the unique, highly satisfactory solution to each party's love problem. Produced and directed by Herbert Wilcox, "Irene" is the screen version of the famous musical comedy hit, and many of the original melodies such as "Alice Blue Gown" and "Castle of Dreams" are included, along, with a new musical number.
