RESUME OF RED CROSS WORK

Eight members of the Wellington City Sub-centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society are still on duty at Trentham Camp Hospital, according to a report recently read at the monthly meeting of the branch. The V.A.D.s hold regular drill parades and section practices and carry out duties such as visiting hospitals, helping with hospital sewing, demonstrating at classes, and helping with street days, etc. About 150 members helped at the Red Cross pageant.

Six members of the men's voluntary aid detachment were called up during the month for military service. The detachment is now undergoing training as hospital attendants They have organised a Christmas fund to provide presents for members serving overseas.

Out-patients =at Wellington Hospital waiting to interview the doctors have been served with 1447 cups of tea, coffee, and cocoa by the Red Cross cafeteria. The ladies' social club has helped with a street day and is working enthusiastically for shop days in November. The ladies' auxiliary work for the month has included the making of bandages, covering splints, and completing layettes for needy families. Members visited the Victoria Ward with gifts for the patients.

The commandant reported that the 'first division was continuing foot drill i instruction, but had ceased mechanised 'drill meantime to allow the second division to take instruction in this subject. The first division is undergoing first-aid instruction, the second division is receiving instruction in foot and . mechanised drill, and the third division has commenced its mechanical course. Members also convey Red Cross official visitors to local and mental hospitals .weekly.
