MAY HAVE TO CHARGE

GROCERS AND PARCELS

Because of another increase in the price of brown wrapping paper the Wellington and Hutt Valley Grocers' Association has decided to make another appeal to the public to cooperate by taking baskets or bags when shopping. It was stated today that should this appeal fail to have the desired effect the grocers will have no option but to charge a penny a parcel for wrapping.

According to the announcement made today the increase in the price of brown wrapping paper is £11 17s 6d a ton, bringing the merchant's price to £72 a ton, as against the pre-war price of £34 for the quality paper then used. The Wellington and Hutt Valley Grocers' Association has decided $0 issue placards to all its members for placing in windows and inside shops drawing the attention of the public to the position.
