NEW AREA COMMANDERS

Mr. Semple announced today the following additional appointments of area commanders for the Home Guard: — . .

Area 7, Headquarters, Napier: Lieutenant John Walter Snaddon. Lieutenant Snaddon served in the Hawke's Bay Regiment from 1911 to 1915 and again from 1918 to 1920. During the last war he served with the N.Z.E.F. in the Wellington Regiment from 1915 to 1917, with the rank of lieutenant. He is the managing director of a number of companies in Napier, and is on the executive of the Returned Soldiers' Association.

Area 7A, Headquarters, Gisborne: Colonel Reginald Frank Gambrill. Colonel Gambrill served with the.Wellington Regiment during the last war from 1915 to 1919, and rose to the rank of major. His name was brought under the notice of the Secretary of State for War for valuable services. After his return to New Zealand he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel to command the Ist Battalion, Hawke's Bay Regiment, and later the 2nd N.Z. Infantry Brigade, with the rank of Colonel. He is a barrister and solicitor, and is a prominent member of the Returned Soldiers' Association in Gisborne.
