HOME GUARD
ENROLLING BEGUN
Enrolment in the Home Guard was commenced in various districts of the Wellington area yesterday, and at some of the recruiting depots there was a steady stream of applicants during the early evening period. The Guard being open to all men over sixteen years of age not actively attached to the armed Forces, those wishing to join covered a wide range in age and experience. The depot at the Karori Library, for one, had several officers busy from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. signing up men wishing to serve and having them attested. Generally the officers were able to satisfy applicants on points regarding the Home Guard and its functions. However, there were some matters about which more 'information was desired, but these did not affect the keenness to join, and enlistments were well up to expectations. The depots are to be open daily.
