"NATIONAL DUTY"

FINDING SHELTER FOR THE

HOMELESS

(Received October 8, 12.50 p.m.)

LONDON, October 7,

Referring to the many people in this country who have literally lost all they possess, Mr. W. Holmes, in his presidential address at the Trade Union Congress, declared: "It is the nations bounden duty to provide alternative accommodation for those made homeless. The people who go to the shelters spend hours there, and must obtain hot drink and food. When they are able to leave the shelters many of them go straight to work without a chance of returning home for a meal. The problem of making better arrangements for shelters and making them safer refuges is not insoluable."
