THEFT OF HANDCUFFS

CHRISTCHURCH, October 7.
For stealing a pair of handcuffs from a policeman's bedroom, Steven Francis Llewellyn Neary, aged 41, was sent to gaDl for a month when he appeared in the Magistrate's Court today.
The police stated that Neary was released from Paparua Prison on Saturday" and arrived at Lyttelton in a drunken condition. He was sent away from the inter-island steamer wharf on account of. his condition, and made his way to the Sailors' Home, where he previously stayed. He was unlucky, however, for the Sailors' Home was now a naval and police barracks. Though evicted once he went back and stole the handcuffs from the constable's bedroom. Later he was arrested for drunkenness, and the handcuffs were found among his possessions. His explanation was that he bought them from a Norwegian sailor..
