WORK OF PARLIAMENT

SHOULD FINISH THIS WEEK

DEBATE ON EXCESS PROFITS

BILL

The business at present before the House of Representatives is not likely to keep it after the end of this week. After routine business today the House will adjourn for the afternoon out of respect for the memory of the late Mr. John Hutcheson, a former member of Parliament. In the evening the second reading debate on the Excess Profits Bill will be opened by the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash).

Parliament is likely to complete the present sitting without the holding of a secret session. The Government has always made it clear that if members desire to get private explanations from Ministers regarding war effort, the opportunity will be given. However, on the present occasion, members appear to be satisfied with the wide opportunities available for discussion of war regulations, and the attitude of Ministers, who, in addition to making statements which can be published, have offered to provide further details in which members may be interested.

A day will be set aside this week for a general discussion of war regulations.
