INCREASED PRODUCTION
"The farmers of New Zealand were asked to increase production—particularly of cheese and bacon," said Mr. V. E. Donald, speaking at Mastcrton yesterday. '"They had responded magnificently," ho added, "and would ensure that a greater quantity of these commodities will be shipped to England during the" next export season." Mi. Donald quoted external trade figures to show how exports of primary products had increased in value, although wool and butter were lower in volume. The increase in the value of exports and the decrease in imports gave a substantial surplus, thereby building up London funds. "We might well ask ourselves;" said Mr. Donald,-."are' we doing pur utmost? We have; certainly sent overseas some thousands of soldiers and airmenr-T-but are those remaining behind doing all that might reasonably be expected? We should aim to achieve greater production, avoidance of waste, work harder, spend more wisely, and save for a rainy day."
