THAILAND'S CLAIMS TO BE PRESSED
NO INTENTION TO FIGHT
LONDON, October 5.*
It was announced in Vichy that groups of 2Q to 40 Thai planes flew over the frontier of IndOtChina and that the Thai frontier forces are reinforced. These demonstrations are not. regarded seriously, it is stated, and are probably intended to support Thailand's territorial claims, to which France has replied that she does not intend to discuss a revision of the frontier but is prepared to give Thailand access to deep waters of the Mekong River.
The Bangkok correspondent of the Domei (Japanese) news agency states that the Thai Premier, Luang Bipul Songgram. declared that his Government was determined to pursue the quest for the disputed regions of IndoChina but had no intention of resorting to arms.
Hanoi reports that the Governor of Indo-China, Admiral Decoux decorated the Japanese negotiator, Major-General Nishihara, with the Order of the Dragon of Annam, with the raijk of Grand Officer, before the envoys deoartu^ on a "pleasure trip" to southern Indo-China. where the Indo-Chinese and Thailand troops are massed on the border.
The Japanese Foreign Office announced that an economic mission, hearted by Matsumiya. is going to Indo-China to cement the closer economic relations.
