THE CANADIAN ARMY

ONTARIO, October 5.

The Defence Department announced that Canada will have an army of 500,000 men in permanent and nonpermanent service next summer. The men on full-time active service at home and overseas now total 150,000, and the non-permanent active militia nearly 112.000, while 29.750 are being called up on Wednesday under the National Resources Mobilisation Act as the first of 240.000 who are to be summoned in the next 12 months.
