The news agencies report an attack by the German air force in waves over the south-east coast today. The bombers are said to have been heavily escorted by fighters.
London had two "alerts" of short duration. During one of these a few German aircraft which had penetrated the outer defences were seen over the
capital
Figures issued by the Air Ministry show that 23 enemy aircraft were destroyed today. Nine British aircraft are missing but five of the pilots are safe. , LONDON. October 6.
The Air Ministry announces that three more of the British pilots reported missing yesterday have now turned up. This makes only two British pilots missing.
Eighteen of the German machines which were brought down were accounted for in a single hour. They were Messerschmitts which came over in fifties and hundreds and apparently were meant as decoys for the British fighters. Small knots of German
bombers also came over with escorts of fighters but most of yesterday's battles were between fighters.
