LOWER HUTT GUILD

To celebrate' the third birthday of the Lower Hutt branch of the Federation of Townswomen's Guilds and for the entertainment of"the large number of husbands and friends invited to the function a programme of admirable choice and infinite variety was presented on a recent evening by the guild in St. James's Hall, Lower Hutt. Interest never flagged from the sparkling overture, played by the R.S.A. Orchestra, through witty sketches presented by the Dramatic Circle, groups Of choruses by the girls' choir and Mi's. Tunley girls' choir, a character study by members of the Epuni Women's Institute, and individual items contributed by Mrs. Anderson (elocutionary). Mrs. Gandell, Misses Prud-. ance Dudding. and Leonie Hunter, and Master Jack Watson (vocal), and Mr. Steinmuller (conjuring). Afterwards floral exhibits were shown by the Gardening Circle and there was a wonderful display of handcrafts. At supper the guild's birthday cake was cut by: the president, Mrs. W. Nees, and Mayoress, Mrs. J. W, Andrews, and dancing followed. Lovely sprays of flowers were presented to the guests of honour. Mrs. Andrews. Mrs. Walter Nash, and Mrs. John Mitchell, and also to the conveners of the numerous! circles'of the guild. i
