Sub-Inspector L. R. Capp is to leav^ Wellington tomorrow for Napier, where he will take up relieving duty during the absence of Inspector. .Cameron. The Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher, former* ly of Auckland, who has been a travel-" ling evangelist in the British Empire, with headquarters in London, for the last seven years, spent a short time in Wellington before leaving for Auckland on Saturday. Gunner T. A. Mclntyre, the husband of Mrs. N. I. Mcln'tyre,. whose pic* ture appeared in "The Post" on Saturday, was formerly in the service ot the electricity department of the Wellington City Council. Some three years ago he left for England to better; his position, working his passage on a! ship, and when war broke out "he was managing a branch business of a! typewriter company in London. ■ It was in London that he married. He was one of the first to enlist in- the New; Zealand Anti-Tank Corps in London, and is now with the 34th Battery, al battery in Egypt.
The Rev. W. Lawson Marsh, M.A., of Oamaru, who is taking duty at St. Andrew's Church during October! for the Rev. A. B. Kilroy.. M.A., has arrived and is in residence at the Manse, 19 Bolton Street.
Mr. S. J. Robinson, managing director of B. J. Ball (New Zealand), Ltd., returned to Auckland by. the Mariposa after a visit to the United Stats? and Canada. . ~-~*:'
Judge J. Olney, of San Bernadino, California, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Friday to spend a month's holiday in New Zealand. He is Accompanied by Mrs. Olney. . iv
Mr. W. Morgan, who for the past^O years has been a railway • officer;-&t Porirua, and who is retiring on superannuation, was entertained at a social gathering at Porirua last week. - Tri^ butes io his work were paid by Mr. E. Windley, chairman of the Makara: Co.unty Council; and by members rot the district branch of the A.S.R.S., and his qualities as a citizen of the district were also eulogised. Presentations were made to Mr. Morgan, an&>;ia bouquet to Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Morgan! having replied, a social and dance followed, . %-.
Two minor fires required the attention of the iire brigade yesterday. The first was outside the foundry : oil Messrs. William Cable and Co., Ltd., Kaiwarra, where, at 5.5 pan., a large pile of boxes caught fire. One lead! of hose : was sufficient to extinguish the blaze. The second outbreak .was in Ohiro Road, at about 10 p.m., a fenca adjoining a house having caught alight. The brigadesmen prevented any dajnage being done to the house. .;>
