BACK TO PRISON
FALSE PRETENCES
"This man has .been in prison practically cpntinuously since 1921 for. issuing valueless cheques," said Detec-tive-Sergeant W. McLennan yesterday in the Magistrate's Court, when Henry Fergusson Lee, a labourer, aged 36, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M.. and pleaded guilty to twelve charges of false pretences and one of attempted false pretences. Lee was . convicted and sentenced. to terms totalling two years' imprisonment with hard labour. "There is only one thing to do, and that is to send you back again," commented the Magistrate.
Mr. McLennan said that Lee was discharged from the Wellington Prison on September 5 afte,r serving a sentence of two years for false pretences. Immediately after •: his discharge he commenced to issue valueless cheques t? unsuspicious, shopkeepers, the total" e£obunt involved being £93 6s lid. He was arrested by Detective G.-Hogan.
