HOME GUARD
WELLINGTON AREA
ENROLMENT PLANS
Preparations for the enrolment of the Home Guard are practically completed and enrolment will commence on Monday, according to a statement issued today by Colonel A. Cowles, secretary and organiser of the Wellington Committee. Commendable enthusiasm has been evident in the formation of sub-com-mittees, the statement continues. The auxiliary committees of the Returned Soldiers' Association, electors' and ratepayers' associations, and Progress Leagues have entered into the matter with promptitude and vigour, and it is hoped that enrolments will be completed in a few weeks. When the forms are sent in to the committee, volunteers will be posted to their units. an operation which will entail great care and judgment.
Depots have been established in the city and suburbs, and arrangements for additional depots are being made.
Colonel Cowles stated that employees of State Departments and City Council employees who enrol should not take the oath because they will be required for special units under the emergency precautions scheme. A special notification regarding these men will be issued later.
