OBJECTION TO BAN

AMERICAN SHIPS

CARRYING OF CARGO

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. J Dissatisfaction at the Government's refusal to permit American vessels to carry cargo between New Zealand and Australia or Fiji was expressed by the council of the Chamber of Commerce today when a letter replying to representations was received from the Minister of Labour, Mr. Webb, who stated that it was not a question of temporary expediency but a principle of vital concern for the protection of British shipping. Mr. A. G. Lunn said that the boats available to carry such cargo were those of a nation that was proving itself Britain's greatest friend. This should be pointed out to the Minister.

The council decided to write to the Prime Minister requesting reconsideration of the matter.
