FLOOD PREVENTION WORK

RUGBY, November 13

One of the worst, but necessary, inconveniences in wartime conditions in London has been the closing of certain of the tube stations to allow flood prevention operations, and the news that the work is proceeding day and night and rapidly approaches completion is welcomed by Londoners. Two important stations will reopen on Wednesday, and it is looped that all will be finished before the Christmas shopping begins:

Frank Wilson, A. J. Curtis, Sir Jas. Grose, A. R. Hislop, R. H. Nimmo, P. E. pattrick, A. L. Wall, D. E. Wilkie, M. G. C. McCaul; Nelson, L. E. H. Baigent; Palmerston North, K. A. Henderson, M. H. Oram; Morrinsville, H. E. Schofleld (proxy); secretary, A. O. Heany.

Guests at.the conference were Mr. C. E. Critchley, Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, who conveyed greetings from the Associated I Chambers of Commerce of Australia, Mr. R. Boulter, British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. W. F. Bull, Canadian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. L. C. Pinkerton, ConsulGeneral of the U.S.A. in New Zealand, Mr. J. G. Young, Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. M. A. Elliot, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, Mr. L. J. Schmitt, manager of the Industries and Commerce Department, and Mr. G. W. Guthrie, president of the New Zealand Importers' Federation.
