LABOUR IN BRITAIN
RAPID RISE IN DEMAND
EXPECTED
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, November 13.
The temporary increase in unz employment revealed in the recent re-^ turns of the Ministry of Labour was an inevitable yesult; of the change--over from peace _to war conditions, but 7it is pointed out by the Minister of Labour (Mr, Ernest Brown) that the increase, was smaller than in 1914, notwithstanding "the facts to the changeover was more rapid on this occasion and that the total population between •the ages of 16 and 64 is now 5,500,000 , larger than in 1914. =
A rapid rise in the demand for labour for war purposes is expected shortly. The development in times of peace'of a free organisation of v employers and workpeople whose cooperation: since the outbreak of the war has been one of the most striking manifestations of the national unity ensures that the demand will be satissed smoothly.
